Bingham has on the border of the parish the Roman settlement Margidunum built on the Fosse Way, which was a major Roman road linking Lincoln, ultimately, to Exeter. Within the parish there is at least one villa, but evidence of the Roman occupation is present in scatters of pot sherds found in the fields in many parts of the parish. Archaeological excavations have been carried out only at Margidunum, but building work at Carnarvon Primary School has revealed parts of what may have been the villa there.
