  The Nottinghamshire Yeomanry was formed on the creation of the Territorial Force in April 1908 and placed under the order of the Notts. & Derby. Mounted Brigade. Their headquarters was on Derby road, Nottingham with squadrons being headquartered as follows: ‘A’ squadron at Bingham with drill stations at Carlton, Plumtree and Southwell. In the renumbering of the Territorials in 1917, the Nottinghamshire Yeomanry issued numbers from 280001, hence Thomas Gillotts new number.
The South Notts. Yeomanry became part of the 7th mounted Brigade and served in Salonika.
In April 1918 they merged with the Warwickshire Yeomanry to form B Battalion Machine Gun Corps and on 26th May sailed from Alexandria on the Leasowe Castle, which was torpedoed. The survivors were returned to Egypt and sailed again on 18th June, arrived in Taranto, Italy on 21 June 1918 and then moved by train to Etaples, France






Robert Reynolds Henshaw died aboard the Leasowe Castle. He was also with the S Notts Hussars.

They lived in Long Acre in 1939 – probably no 2, the old surgery.
1954 Thomas died 5/1/1954. Probate to Arthur Richard Gillott farmer and Ethel Mary Robinson. Effects: £2,404 4s 11d  
  Gillott’s Close in Bingham was named after the Gillott family, who had farmed the land.
