Service record Enlisted 1st December 1915 for the duration of hostilities.
He was 5 feet 5¾” tall and had a chest od 36½”. His hair was brown, eyes hazel and he had a fresh complexion.

  Electrical work and maintenance was carried out by the Torpedo Branch in the form of ‘wiremen’ and these were overseen by the Electrical Officers.

Training in those earlier days was carried out at H.M.S.Pembroke Chatham Dockyard, H.M.S.Vernon Portsmouth and for a short period, Roedean Girls School in Brighton

  It seems likely from the above that as a qualified electrician John did not need much training before he joined HMS King George.
