Entered France on 10th December 1914.
   
Service record Attested 4 Dec 1914 at Leeds; address Dyneley Lodge Bramhope nr Leeds, occupation chauffeur.
His descriptive form on enlistment shows he was 5’97/8”. He had a girth of 39” (expansion 2”). His next of kin’s address was given as c/o Mr T Castledine, Market Place, Bingham as well as 4 High Street Kimberley.

There is a very faint letter on headed paper “Bramhope, Leeds”: it appears to be a reference from his employer “T Fawcett”.
On 24/7/17 he was caught exceeding the speed limit (of 8 mph) and sentenced to 12 days FP No. 2. (Field Punishment No 2 involved being shackled all day but not attached to anything like a wagon wheel as in FP NO 1)

His “Casualty Form” shows his next of kin, Lizzie, living at 4 High Street, Kimberley.
His many postings were:
20/3/17 406 MT Company attached to 8th Siege Battery he was immediately drafted to 562 MT Coy.
7 days later he went to 406 Company.
On 9/5/17 he went to 565 Coy
Later he joined 604 MT Coy. He took two weeks leave in September
On 19 November he joined 806 Coy.
18/12/17 he went to 406 Coy and was appointed acting lance corporal.
In March 19198 he went to 770 Coy.
In November he joined 272 Coy and took two weeks home leave 28/9 to 12/10/1918.
On 7/11/19 he was appointed Lance Corporal and on the 13th November joined 717 Coy.
On 26th November he was “transferred to UK for Release”.

His will, made on 15/2/18 was returned to him on 22/5/1919.

On his “Statement of disabilities demobilisation form”, dated 26 April 1919, he confirmed he had no disability. He gave his address Grantham Road, Bingham.
His “Protection Certificate” issued 28th April 1919 by No 1 Dispersal Unity Grantham had his address as Grantham Road. He had been promoted to full Corporal. His specialist Military Qualification was “Lorry Driver and Fitter”.
Lizzie’s address had been 4 High Street, Kimberley
AVL Grantham Road. Not on roll of honour
