Service Record Attested 13/1/15; address Gas Works, Bingham.
Height 5’ 9 5/8’’. Girth 35½’’ expanding to 38’’.
Large scar on palm of left hand. Both 2nd toes amputated

Appointed unpaid L/cpl 6/5/18 and transferred to 3rd Btn
Embarked from Southampton on 6/10/15 and joined Battalion at the front on 10/10/15.
In September and October 1916 suffered from Dysentry. Was treated at two field hospitals and repatriated on Hospital Ship Anwerpen on 13th October.

He was posted on13/10/16 to 5th (Reserve) Bn. In England
On 11th August 1917 he embarked at Southampton and on 12/8/17 joined base depot at Harfleur.
On 24/8/17 he transferred to the 4th Bn and in September took 14 days leave to the UK.
He joined 3rd Bn. In the field on 31/10/18.
On 4/3/19 embarked at Dunkirk for England.

Forces War Records 4th Battalion Grenadier Guards:

14.07.1915 Formed at Marlow.
19.08.1915 Mobilised for war and landed in France to join the 4th Guards Brigade of the 31st Division. Walter joined them in October 1915.The division saw considerable action in the Battle of the Lys in April, particularly the Battle of Estaires, Battle of Hazebrouck and the Defence of Nieppe Forest.
[20.05.1918 Transferred to the G.H.Q. Reserve
11.11.1918 Ended the war in France, Criel Plage S.W. of Le Treport.
