1916 Army records | In September 1916 The Guards Division was on the Somme Front
in France near the villages of Flers and Courcelette. They were preparing
themselves for the 3rd and final Somme offensive. The plan was to punch
a hole in the German lines and this hole would be exploited by the use of
cavalry. The battle lasted 7 days and although with heavy losses some ground
was captured, lack of resources prevented any advantage to the British. Thomas was killed on the first day - September 15th 1816 |
||
War Diary | The war diary describes the fire fight in graphic detail. Henshaw was one of 31 other ranks killed that day. | ||

On 21st July 1914, The following advertisement appeared: Workmen wanted. Young man wanted to live in, must be a good horseman, - Hutchinson, Tythby Grange, Bingham, Notts. This pretty well dates the Henshaw’s move to Bingham. The electoral register for 1918 shows Richard and Mary Henshaw at Porchester Terrace; clearly they had moved in 1914. |
